Radon testing in Steamboat Springs

Whenever moving into a new home or building, it is always wise to conduct a radon test to assess the level of radon exposure. There are many do it yourself test and devices that can be purchased at your local hardware store but we highly recommend that the testing is done by a certified contractor. Even if you have lived in your home for years and want to know your radon levels, hiring a trained technician will ensure that your living conditions are properly tested and analyzed.

Steps to proper radon testing

Whether considering a new home or curious about your own home, setting up short term radon testing is a relatively easy process.

Conducting a short term radon test

  1. Request a short term radon test with a certified contractor
  2. Schedule a time to have the radon measurement device placed in your home
  3. Place shoebox size radon measurement device in undisturbed area for 3 - 5 days
  4. Retrieve device and analyze the short term test results with your contractor

If the short term test results are less than 4 pCi/L , the EPA does not recommend any immediate action. If the short term test results are 4 pCi/L or more, consider mitigation. A long term test can be done at this point or a mitigation should be conducted.

Conducting a long term radon test

  1. Request a long term radon test with a certified contractor
  2. Schedule a consultation
  3. Place shoebox size radon measurement device in undisturbed area for one year
  4. Retrieve device after a year and analyze the long term test results
  5. Hold consultation with contractor to review results

The long term testing allows for more accurate testing under normal day-to-day living conditions. These results typically take up to a year to recieve.
